InterPlus Jakarta Sans

The honest take

Two modern sans faces that both feel current in product design. Inter (Rasmus Andersson, 2017) is the neutral, screen-first UI standard, engineered for legibility at every size and deliberately without personality. Plus Jakarta Sans (Tokotype, 2020) is a geometric-leaning sans, originally commissioned as the visual identity for Jakarta, with subtly distinctive details and a slightly more stylish, contemporary character that reaches an 800 weight. Choose Inter for the safest, most invisible body-and-UI default. Choose Plus Jakarta Sans when you want a fresher, more branded geometric feel with a bit of flair in headings and a heavier top weight. In dense body text Inter is marginally more neutral and legible; in brand and display type Plus Jakarta Sans brings more style. They also pair cleanly, Jakarta on top and Inter beneath.

The x-ray

Same size, same baseline — Inter over Plus Jakarta Sans. Where they agree the strokes merge; where they argue, fringes.

Hamburgefonstiv

“Hamburgefonstiv” is the type designer's test word — it carries most of the shapes that give a face away.
