Playful font pairings
Playful pairings lean on rounded terminals, bouncy baselines and circle-based geometry — letterforms that visibly enjoy themselves. The energy almost always lives in the heading: a puffy rounded sans, a brush script or a cartoon display face does the performing, while the body font stays structurally conventional so paragraphs still read at speed.
The failure mode is obvious once you have seen it: two novelty faces on one page turns playful into childish, and a wobbly script pressed into body text is simply unreadable. Every combination here keeps one foot on the ground — the display face gets a partner with firm bones, matched x-heights and open counters, so the page reads as confident fun rather than a birthday invitation.
